We’re all doing it apparently. But what is it?

“Sofalizing is the activity of using the Internet or other electronic devices to socialize with people from home, rather than meeting them face to face”

Even the hard nosed anti-tech people amongst us would have to admit to being drawn in to this ever increasing world of sofalizing - it’s right in front of us and it’s difficult to ignore. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, the list continues to grow.

But what is it doing to society? What will be the impact say, 5 or 10 years from now and should we be concerned?

Some suggest we will be socially inept at face to face interaction.

An article in the Telegraph wrote that there is “an army of extreme sofalisers” out there.

All sounds a bit like old fashioned people whining on about the change in the world and that its not like the good old days….or does it?

Any form of connection and communication has to be a good thing when it is building relationships but I think the questions we face are;

  1. What will be the quality of relationship be like and what will that mean?

  2. Will we lose the art of real, face to face people skills, and if so, what could be the impact?

Some are concerned, some are oblivious, many are embracing……..

Where are you at?
